Hog Cutters is passionate about eliminating hogs. That could not be any more obvious, and we may have mentioned it before…. insert eye rolls here….
Another aspect of being professional and responsible wild hog trappers is passing our experience and knowledge on to others. Tonight we woant to touch on the importance of knowing your sounder.
Why is it so important to know the sounders or hog groups on your property?
Because no two hog groups will be comprised of the same number of sows, young, adolescents, or boars, any efforts at elimination means you could be leaving hogs behind. The worst result is leaving behind a now educated hog or hogs who will be 10 times harder to eliminate for the rest of its life.
In the video we are showing tonight, you see a small sounder in one of our family member’s traps. They are busily eating in view of the MINE control camera high on the left. If we had not educated ourselves to the hogs making up this sounder, we could have easily droppped the gate and been no wiser. However a few seconds later a quick peek of eye-glint in the underbrush beyond the trap shows something is outside. Seconds later a hog is now barely visible beyond the panels. The camera view you see here is not a cellular connected camera, so this video was not available when we needed to make the decision to drop the gate.
The Hog Cutters team has done its homework though. We know there is a young dark boar missing from the group. Within 5 minutes of this video, the young boar entered with his sounder. After confirmation on the Jager Pro app, the gate was dropped and the entire sounder was removed before sunrise.
The straggler will not live on to be an educated menace. By knowing this sounder we felt confident we could now focus our attention on the next sounder arriving earlier in the evening.
